We perceive technological trends as digitalization and Industrie 4.0 or the changes in the powertrain industry at a very early stage and set the appropriate impulses. Products of the power transmission engineering industrial sector, which have always been decisive for customers when it comes to power and torque transmission, power density and thus to performance take on an additional dimension with digitalization. Products of the power transmission engineering industry also become a data source as carrier of sensors for intelligent power transmission and for components of Industrie 4.0.
The OPC UA specification for the powertrain will enable cross-manufacturer interoperability by providing information and communication in a standardized way for industry 4.0 applications in mechanical and plant engineering.
On April 17, 2018, leading manufacturers from the power transmission engineering sector met at the kick-off meeting for the VDMA Industry 4.0/OPC UA drive technology working group. In the inaugural meeting, fundamental issues were discussed and the first measures taken for further work.
On November 10, 2020 the world's first immersive online event on OPC UA took place. Participants of the event learned about the approaches and contents of already published or currently under development OPC UA Companion Specifications of the mechanical and plant engineering industry - flexible and convenient in your home office.
In 12 web seminars, experts from various branches of the mechanical and plant engineering industry presented their respective OPC UA standards in the period from June 30 to August 7, 2020. About 3,800 registered participants informed themselves in the 60-minute sessions about the approaches and contents of the OPC UA Companion Specifications for our industry.
The manufacturing industry has clearly understood that predictive maintenance (PM) is a key issue, a precondition for efficient, sustainable service delivery in the future. Progress in the technologies required by PM is swift and significant.
